Can Somebody Please Help Me Identify This Sword?

Hello, I'm brand new here and I don't know jack squat about swords. This sword has been passed down through my family for at least three generations. My grandfather was German, so I thought maybe it was some kind of German issue sword. It looks pretty old. It's all pitted, and it was covered with rust 3 days ago. I spent the last 3 days cleaning it up so it's relatively shiny and looks almost good again. Can somebody please please tell me where this sword comes from, what nationality, how old it is, any kind of info? Greatly appreciated, thanks.
