Wakizashi- Mihara Masaie?

Recommended Posts

I have come into possession of this wakazashi, inherited. I am politely asking for assistance on correct info on it. I was told this is made by Mihara Masaie saku. Made in 1377. That is all I know. I am unsure of its authenticity. The pics arent the greatest, did have oil on the blade too. The scabbard and handle appear made to fit for this blade. Can upload more pics if required. Additionally what is a relative worth of this blade if it is correct. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

永和 Eiwa San Nen (1377) is correct per the sayagaki. It's difficult to say much more from the current photos, but the activity I see including hitatsura like effects with tobiyaki, deep mune-yaki, etc it's not typical of Ko-Mihara. Unfortunately it appears that the blade has been subjected to a polishing wheel and all the geometry has been rounded off.

I'm terms of your question about value, the forging flaws (kitae-ware) and the damage to the sword's geometry by having been home polished substantially impact the market value. It is also likely that the sword cannot be restored (or that it would not make financial sense to do so) .
