Info On Gunto - Nagamitsu

Recommended Posts

All,

This is a follow up to another post I have here (pictures included):

http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/25671-assistance-w-katana-in-gunto-mounts/

My current questions are:

Since this is not my era of study, can anyone enlighten me as to:

1. The price range for a piece such as this?

2. Whether or not the stamps suggest non-traditional forging\ metal?

Best,

James

I havent seen the lower stamp under the 313 which is just stocking number, do the tsuba and seppa have same number?

a longer Nagamitsu in good polish (yours looks ok) can fetch 3K

your nagasa is what? 24+inches? should be able  to fetch 15-1600 on ebay, depends on a lot, mainly getting two bidders who want to add a Nagamitsu to their collection.

One of my fav Gendaito smiths when done by him and great choiji hamons.

Good afternoon all.

I am new to this forum and want to say "GREAT FORUM"!

I am very impressed with the knowledge level here and hope to learn more about Japanese swords myself.  I did live in Japan and Okinawa for several years and have an appreciation for the people, culture, language, and of course, their food.

I recently took a decent photo of the MEI on the NAKAGO for my sword (this sword).  Please see the attached photo and let me know who you believe has signed it.

I look forward to learning more about this sword with your assistance.

A BIG thanks to James for assisting me.

JR
