A New Find

Not planning to do a thing to the blade anytime soon but I thought someone that can restore the blade might know a lot about what they were looking at in person and have advise. Yes I would be happy to share what I find out about the blade.

To throw another couple of options, what appeared to be Kuni (國) may alternately be Suke (助) or Nori (則). FWIW, there were several smiths who signed 則定.

Having a sword polished can be a very rewarding experience, that is if everything is carefully researched ahead of time. Which includes choosing not only the right sword but polisher as well. Doing otherwise could easily lead to very disappointing results all around.

The signature is almost not readable and due to the JPEG-compression there are more details missing.

Okay, the trick on saving as much detail data as possible is to immediately save your image in a lossless format (PNG or TIF) as soon as you take the photo. Then, crop, filter, or do anything else. The very last thing you can do is to save back as a JPG, once you know you're not going to do anything else to it.
