What Plant Is It?

This plant motif is discribed as kiri plant. For me it doesn't look like paulownia. It looks more like fern or something else?

This plant is known as "Sotetsu" and grows in the southern part of Kyushu and the islands.  (Rotate the photo 180 degrees if possible.)

It does look like a sago palm. I don't think I've seen that portrayed on tousogu before. John

Oh wow gents. Thank you very much for knowing it. Never thought that this could be a palm. I search and search and didn't found anything what would fit to that plant.
