Thought On This Type Of Ashi

Hi to all,

 

I came across a Saya with an Ashi design I have not seen before and cannot find similar designs on the net. Have you seen this and can you enlighten me further?

 

The sword iteself is signed Hiro yoshi unfortunatley it has been adapted with extra holes to fit a Tsuka ( missing as well)

 

It is however the design of the Ashi that I found interesting
