Yamakichibei Tsuba

On offer is an iron mokko tsuba featuring what I believe is a stylized butterfly motif done in ko-sukashi (I could be wrong about the motif here; it's a bit tricky to interpret).

The surface of the tsuba is finished in a combination of tsuchime and yakite, both hallmarks of Yamakichibei iron, as is the tekkotsu on the rim.  The piece presents with a gentle sheen; no rust is apparent on the plate or rim to my eye.

The tsuba is signed "Yamakichibei," but I believe this to be a "workshop" piece of the early Edo period, and so not to be confused with the the work of the O-Shodai, Meijin Shodai, or Nidai.

Measurements are 7.6 x 6.9cm x 4mm at the mimi, 2.5-3.0mm at the nakago-ana.  $350. Plus shipping and any paypal fees.  ;-)

Cheers,

Steve
