Here I'm selling a high quality Gendaito by the Riugun Jumei Toshi smith "Dewa Kuni ju Gassa Munemitsu" (Gassan in this case refers to his hometown Dewa where Gassan school was started).

The blade has a star stamp meaning it was traditionally made using Tamagahne. Furthermore its Ubu Nagao is stamped 315. It is dated "Showa Ju Hachi Nen Ni Gatsu Hi" (1943).

Munemitsu got the 5th Seat in the 1941 exhibition and was known for producing Medium grade Gendaito BUT this blade is high above average quality. I dare to say that it is a very good Gendaito blade with beautiful Gunome Chojio Hamon. Nagasa is 65,8 cm. Total length 98. Blade is in old original enjoyable wartime polish - see images.

Shinogi Tsukuri blade with Chu Kissaki and shallow Tori Sori. Nashiji-Hada.  Ko Maru Boshi with short Kaeri.

The blade is housed in a high quality version of the late 1944 marine landing shin gunto mounts that has brown Ishime lacquer tsukaito over real same. Wooden Saya with Sabi Ishime lacquer - some of it missing see images. Iron Kodugu on Nanako featuring cherry blossoms.

This is a most solid real Gendaito with desireable Hamon. I only have very few Gendai blades in my collection and dare to say that none of them is a bad piece and this one stands up to that standard.

Price is USD 2900.00

Thank you for your positive feedback Stephen. While this smiths is not highly rated I dare to say that the workmanship in this particular blade is very good. In my many Gendai blades greatly nebefit from a good polishtaht will bring out the true quality. There were some marvelous blades produced during that era but many do not stand up to their true quality due to their war time level polish.
