Hey all,

I don't have any sadly, but I would LOVE to see solid silver fittings if anyone has some. Especially a tsuba. Show them off if you would like to share. I appreciate it.

I don't have any close-up pics sorry, but here is a pic of a mumei shin-shinto tanto I have in all silver mounts.

There is a name for that type of button menuki on that tanto, but I don't recall what it is

Also have a marriage set of horse themed fittings, only the menuki are solid silver. Set goes together pretty well I think (well sort of I guess; at least it is all horse themed).

Hi Jerimiah

Thanks to all who have posted pictures.  Attached are my pics which are of a silver mounted tourist piece.  Late 19th/early 20th I would imagine.  Not a lot of old interest and qualityabout it, but there is a lot of silver.

I shall also post separately a shibuichi tsuba with a silvery patina.  Might interest you.

regards, John

I had more I bought at $9-13 but when silver went crazy to $50 I sold around $40. Still have some left.

These are finished fittings so far for a complete efu tachi set I am copperating with Japanese craftsmen on. Nakago ana on the tsuba, fuchi, kashira are not finished because need to be fitted on nakago with a habaki.

I'm frankly not too sure what to make of this, but found the attached aikuchi a few hours before I flew out of town last week. Meiji or later export piece? I'm not certain (I had little time with it), but the entire koshirae appears to be silver. If anyone has seen similar, I'd appreciate hearing.

I made a solide silver habaki for a small tanto blade I fond years ago, and a (now I think it's really ugly) red and black lacquered mounting, I always told myself one day I would make a fan shaped mounting for this blade.
I also have a raw 68mm diameter silver blanck, I lept it for years, in order to make a tsuba from it, but I have no idea for design, and I want to keep the material safe till I don't have a serious design idea.
I was thinking about a snake, because I made a pair of snake menuki recently (one is finished, other is not) after seeing one pair on google, but maybe there is a better design idea?

Patrice,
Since we only deal with genuine and traditionally made Japanese swords and fittings, I think discussions like yours would get a better response at http://www.following...h.org/index.php
We don't really discuss the how-to aspects, but that forum does.

What I have in silver is the koshirae for a Jirotaro Noakatsu tanto. This was discussed here last January and I ended up buying the mounted tanto. Fittings are beautiful and the tanto itself is nothing to sneeze at. Didn't need to spend the money but when you feel good doing so, it must mean you did the right thing. Koshirae is papered but translated, they really don't say much other than what eyes can see. Ron STL

Hi Guys, thought I would post my koshirae that came with a Koyama Munetsugu wakizashi. A full silver set but unsigned and has a nice dragon motif on the koshirae.
