All,

I am not sure if this is the right place to put this or not, since I don't know if I am actually going to sell this blade or not.  I am contemplating a small change in direction on the focus of my collection.  My collection is currently comprised of Kasama Ikkansai Shigetsugu, his masters, and his top students (Okimasa, Shigemasa, Toshihiro/Yasuhiro, Kuniie, Akimoto Akitomo, and Ishii Akifusa).  The slight shift would adjust which students I collect - specifically focusing ONLY on Shigetsugu's Three Birds (Okimasa, Shigemasa, and Toshihiro/Yasuhiro).  This would mean that Kuniie would be out.  I only have one sword by Shodai Yoshihara Kuniie and it is a GOOD one!  It is a sword celebrating Japan's victory at the battle of Singapore.  I know of only one other sword that he made to celebrate this and it is in a NMB Member's collection.

This one has an extremely vibrant and flamboyant Ko-Nie Deki, choji midare hamon.  The blade is perfect!  This sword is the only reason that I am dragging my feet going all in on the Three Birds.  If I were to change my mind or have "sellers remorse" this blade or one of this quality by Kuniie would not be found quickly, if at all. So I am writing this to gauge interest in the sword's sale.  I would hope that I have earned a reputation of being transparent and honest.  To this point, I will disclose EXACTLY what I paid for it.  This will be the baseline of what I would take for the sword - plus shipping, PP, etc.  I have no desire to lose money on this sword, nor should I given that while the price is not cheap, the quality of the blade and the notoriety and importance of the smith justifies it.  If you are seriously interested, please PM me and we can discuss it further.

I believe this will be a Juyo blade at some point, once gendai work is considered. It really is that good!

Hello:

Further to Joe's comments I can fully concur that the man some also call Grandfather Kuniie is  one of the foremost and  important gendai smiths. While his grandsons are perhaps better known today, there would be no Yoshihara tradition without him and he made swords when they were the real thing, made for life or death military use. One of the first gendai swords awarded a Yushu status by the eminent Yoshikawa Koen of the original NTHK was a Kuniie, and it is published in their Vol. I compilation of fine swords.

It would be a nice catch for any devoted gendai collector.

This is tremendous. The choji hamon work puts me in mind of a certain other school that is my most beloved.

The offerings here on NMB as of late will make a man go broke slowly at first, then all at once.

Outstanding, I can see your reluctance to part with it. Juyo is not an exaggeration, given time.

I purchased the Horii Tanto's from Joe's ICAAS sale (the original posts were lost in the forum restoration) and want to let folks know that the transaction was concluded without any problems. Communication was quick and responsive and the blades were well packaged, promptly mailed and everything arrived safely - as expected. For anyone that might have hesitation in entering into a significant transaction with Joe, I can say that in my experience, the items he sold me were exactly as it was represented and that he'll follow through and hold up his end of the agreement. Thanks Joe!

Thanks for the kind words Allan.  I try my hardest to be honest and forthcoming in all of my sales so it is smooth for the buyer and me.  I am glad that it worked well for you and more happy that the blades found a home with someone who will truly appreciate them more than I did.

Same goes with this sword.  The sword itself is fantastic, but I just don't love it like I do the rest of the collection.  Therefore, it's time for it to find a new home.

LOL.  I get it.  It is expensive and because of that, it will sit.  I will have a serious buyer look at it in November at the MPLS show, so it may sit until then.  If anyone wants a crack at it and can give staged payments, paid off by the end of October, it can be yours.

This is a future treasure, and I would bet it will sell Minneapolis. And for those considering staged payments, Joe is very easy to work with when setting up timetable for payments and everything runs smoothly (out of my bank account into Joe's... ;D ).

If I wouldn't be still waiting to sell few blades, I would grab this one and the daito.

So get them while you can!

Good luck with the sale Joe.  I wish I didn't already have so much money tied up in my Kinmichi (and a couple others most likely), or I'd take you up on the staged payment offer in a heartbeat.  I don't even consider gendai swords, but after seeing this one, maybe I should now ;)

Hard to imagine the best of Joe's ICAASS lot has not found a buyer.

I am in the same boat as Sean and Antii with money tied up. Plus already had a very smooth transaction with Joe himself. With him you have everything you are looking for to buy with confidence, deliver good value and in timely and professional manner, just like what I received from him. And you get some cream on top because he is a dedicated collector and highly recommended one who gladly shares his knowledge with everyone, including people just coming into nihonto. Kudos to Joe.
