I will be making HD photographs of the 1620 Ono oshigata scrolls available to interested NMB members (as seen on my volunteer translator site:  http://hidensho.com/ono-oshigata-scrolls/scroll-one-hamon/1-image-1/ )

The file will consist of 12 images; six for each scroll.

The images will be contained in a password protected and watermarked PDF file.  The HD format allows viewers to "zoom in" to examine very faint rubbings and text.

Due to file size (15 megs), I will be using a download services (WeTransfer.com).  Items posted on this service only remain available for a week, so I'll wait to make it available until I get a good number of responses.  Once uploaded, I'll PM members with the download link / password info.

If you're interested in receiving a copy, please reply below or PM me.

As we have some members who only check in at NMB occasionally, I'll give it a few more days and then set up the file broadcast.

There's been a problem with the hidensho.com web site (server environment issue), which I'm working to ensure is corrected. Once I get past this, I'll get the file broadcast.

should make this a bit more open and easy to contribute to.

For your image here,

23. Uda Kunimune

24. Kanenaga (Tegai)

25. Naotsuna (I think, 2nd char hard)

26. Nagamitsu

27. Mitsukane

28. Kunimune (not Saburo)

29. Kunitoki (unsure on the Toki, Enju)

30. Sagami Kuni junin Sadamune

31. Kunitoki again?

33. Hisakuni (Awataguchi)

35. Kuniyasu? Maybe implied Awataguchi

36. Bizen Kuni Osafune junin Sakonshogen Nagamitsu Tsukuru

37. Norikuni?

38. Kunimune (Saburo)

39. Rai Kunitoshi

40. Yasutsuna

41. Bizen ju Unju

42. Nobufusa (Ichimonji)

43. Bitchu Kuni yadayada Aoe Sadatsugu

I can rattle this stuff off but when you get too much into password protection and registration and paranoia to protect these things, you also give pushback against the community efforts you require in order to make sense from these documents.

Your pages have zero info to date so should show you that you're doing it wrong.

This:

http://hidensho.com/...gata/2-image-1/

You're using javascript to try to lock down images, and it's too small in order to see anything useful out of it so nobody can contribute. If the viewer has like a tiny bit of internet knowledge they can display the image properly by circumventing this stupidity meant to lock the images down.

It's rather dumb to make me go to a developer console to pull the link so I can read the images so give you the knowledge that you need in order to make these images useful.

So relax your control over these things and turn it over to the community.

17. yasuyoshi (samonji school)

18. masatsune (ko-bizen)

20. norimune (ko-bizen)

21. kunito? kunitsuna? unsure on second

I spent a total of about 10 minutes on the two pages so its subject to error. I tried to use your site before and failed at it. I think you're just doing this wrong if you want to get good info and also share it back with the community IMHO.

Thanks for your kind suggestions and work, Darcy. I've taken the image controls off the Hidensho site, so people can now click on the images to view the medium and full resolution..

The requirement for registration / log in on the site has to stay however, for the very reason Brian requires registration here... a no-registration "open posting" site fills up almost immediately with spam postings, porn, ads for penile enlargement and offers on how to make a million dollars a week while only working an hour a day.

The concept of the Hidensho site was to be able to present the images in a congruent fashion, with easily visible main postings and discussions; this pretty much requires a separate site with the right features plugged in. I'm using Wordpress and have turned on self-registration; there's really no way I can make logging in on such a site any simpler than it is. Unfortunately, there's no way I can make it so someone logged in here is also automatically registered on Hidensho as well.

The new URL for site registration / login is http://hidensho.com/oshigata You'll find this on each Hidensho site page under "Apply for Registration" and "Log in" in the top left column.

I suppose I could just post such images here in threads, but then we'd lose some of the presentation features which make it easy to connect the base images, the posts and the connected side-discussion thread. Brian would also have be be willing to host all the images... which, due to their very nature, are quite large, and -- between the two oshigata references I have up at the moment -- presently number in the hundreds.

Wow... thank you NMB person who emailed me to tell what an ignorant parasite I / my Hidensho site is.

Apparently putting free photos of my acquisitions on my site, with the opportunity to let people view, translate / identify and and make free use of all posts and translations of period documents, for what I hoped would be to the benefit of the community, was actually me displaying my ignorance, my unwillingness to study, and my demanding people for knowledge "I haven't earned".

This is quite enough. I quite understand my position here now; in fact, it's been made crystal clear. The Hidensho site is now offline. I will have the domain permanently removed later this week, so as not to impose on the "secret knowledge" of others.

Be assured I will not be bothering you again with these or any future acquisitions.

Brian, feel free to delete this thread. It no longer serves any purpose.

Sorry to hear that, Randy. That is outrageous and you should not have been trolled like that for trying to bring the community together and share your resources. It is true it could have been easier - i.e. just set up a normal website with the references without any logins and passwords - but it was all free and useful.

Sorry to hear that, Randy. I also hope you reconsider.
Some people are just never happy. Although I agree with Darcy that the site was difficult to navigate, I was really impressed with the work you have done.
To be honest with you, I have received the same kind of messages, and it is disheartening. Both a study I did on nihonto oil, and my Muramasa website, received many negative emails, even though both were done for free, in the spirit of sharing knowledge.
I just chose to ignore the a-holes and focus on the feedback from the people here that I respect.
I would hope that you do the same.

I am shocked and staggered to say the least.  Honestly, I think the perpetrators should be named and shamed AND permanently banned from the Board.  Although not a "document" person I have followed Randy's postings with the greatest of admiration and forwarded where I know of someone else's close and related interest.  Criticism should be fairly and openly canvassed on the Board as it has (mostly) been.  Fair-minded people demand nothing else.  I too in my past have been "trolled" by people who, honestly, turned out to be nothing more than legends in their own lunchtime and thoroughly unlikable and unpleasant individuals.  Randy, if you're still reading be assured that the majority of "us" are with you.

Best regards,

Barry Thomas

aka BaZZa.

Randy, why would you let the views of one person keep you from doing what so many more people obviously appreciate. I have been viciously attacked by a few individuals for my Pinterest site, but I simply ignore these people as I get so many more positive messages from people who tell me how useful it is to them.  Just keep doing what you do and ignore the "nattering nabobs of negativism".
