Hanging Scroll - Crows And Sun Signed Kokei

Recommended Posts

This is a kakejiku signed "Kokei" and depicting two crows in sumi-e (charcoal ink) with a faint red sun in the background. The mountings are in good condition and the roller ends are made of a nice dark wood. There is some light staining and discoloration, but nothing out of the ordinary for a painting of this age. There are a few light creases, but nothing major and no holes or tears I can see. Unfortunately there is no matching box; it will be posted in a tube padded with bubble wrap.

Yoshimura Kokei (1769 - 1836) was an artist in Kyoto and one of Maruyama Okyo’s famous ten pupils, alongside Keibun, Bunrin, Nangaku, Genki, Soken and so on. He was in the service of the Nishi Hogan-ji, for which he painted a series of screens.

Height: 183cm (72.0 inches)
Width inc. roller ends: 67cm (26.4 inches)
Primary material: Paper
Roller end material: Wood

Asking USD$100 + shipping.
