Ww Ii Sword Id - Help With Symbols

My grandfather obtained this sword during WW II.  I have tried researching the markings, but my knowledge of what I am searching for is very limited....though I think this is a late 1944 Shin-Gunto.  Through my research, I stumbled upon this site and thought I would give this a try.  Can anyone help with the translation of the symbols?  If it helps, my grandfather was in Hq. Co. 3rd Div. US Marine Corps.  Thanks, Mike

Here is the requested pic.  I really appreciate all your help!

Also, can you provide any additional links that would help me to understand/learn about the symbols and their placement on the sword.  For example, your requested symbol and its location, what does it represent?
