Hi

I have a tsuba in Japan that will shortly submitted to the Shinza panel (my first for Shinza)

After the results how do I the tsuba back to the UK without incurring excise duty?

Mark it as "personal belongings" on the customs form when it is returned and do not include a value. At least this is what i was told by a customs agent when there was a little confusion getting a sword returned from Australia.

Many countries in EU (or still in ;D ) still collect taxes on services performed which was a big suprise for me after first polishes and blades coming back. Also they will tax the postage costs.. or well atleast here in Finland where everything is taxed and taxed again.

 

Have the receipt from the export postage ready and also service fees from Japan just in case they do not release it with just "personal items returning" markings.

I would definately advise anyone to use Paul Martin but as I had a friend in Japan I asked them to submit the tsuba
