Marius
An iron guard from the Edo period, signed Nobuie. Of course that is not THE Nobuie, but one of the masters who signed "Nobuie" and who worked in the Edo period. According to Mr. Haynes there were quite a few such tsubako in the Edo period: Kaga Nobuie, Myochin Nobuie, or the last Nobuie who worked in Sanshu Okazaki ju, in the Mikawa provionce 1750-1800. I leave it to the buyer to find it out. What I know is that this is a very good quality tsuba. It has a very nice shape (Aoi), the iron is very well forged and sports some granular tekkotsu and the patina is great. The guard has presence and radiates strength, even though the carved vine is very delicate and playful. Excllent for mounting or enjoying as part of a collection. 7.9 x7.9 cm, 6 mm at rim. $215 incl. global express shipping to Europe and USA.
