Painted Tsuka Painted Saya

Has any one got any ideas on my painted TSUKA and light weight painted wood SAYA? All in good condition. This is the only example I own (in fact seen). I have seen many type 44's painted, and this is the type 98 equivalent. Neil.

Neil that looks great!  An alternative style of wrap which has been lacquered rather than painted I would suggest and really nice ishime lacquer saya, what a nice thing.  Have a look at this for styles of wrap and you will find this, http://www.tsukamaki.net/gallery1.htm

A really nice style of mount, I'm curious as to the blade it houses.

 Both lacquer and wrap are reminiscent of older style swords, as in the Sengoku Jidai. Practical and hard wearing, so I would guess a special order by someone expecting serious combat use.... or wanting to give that impression anyway.

Hi All, thanks for your interest. The blade is signed HIZEN NO KUNI TADAAKI SAKU. My research on him has been limited by information. The only reference in SLOUGH is on page 212, in the CT (cutting test) category. Actually help here would be appreciated. It is a HEFTY blade, and would be a formidable weapon. Neil.

you will have to look for a while to find another like it and in that same near mint condition.

Very nice Dave, certainly not the norm, but that's what happens when each officer must supply their own sword. Definitely a keeper, plenty of 44s with lacquer but few 98s.
