High-Grade Copper Seppa / Make Sekigane Tsuba Inserts

Hi everyone, 

 

I've been fruitlessly searching the web for high quality copper Seppa to match a fine lacquered copper Habaki. I can adjust the inner opening with a file. Ideally, finished with a and lacquer glaze.  

 

I've also been searching for someone or a good tutorial on how to mount a tsuba, by this I mean insert the copper sekigane. I can do the fine adjustments for it to fit the blade, but I'm somewhat reluctant to try and do it myself, as hammering a chunk of copper in an antique tsuba without much experience could result in damage... 

 

I'm sure others have stumbled on similar issues :-)

Hi Chris:

I have used lead sheet to make the sekigane. It is easy to work with and just folds a little over the ana on to the seppa dai.

Have you asked Kevin, Ford or even Robert (for a start) if they can/ would do this for you..? Thats where I would be looking.

This is another option I've used to fit a tsuba to a blade without the need for potentially damaging sekigane.

Must admit that Barry's lead option is probably easier, though.

Is this wood? If so, probably need fairly hard wood and some fine woodcarving tools. Interesting!
