My New Ireko Shirasaya By John Tirado

Max,

What material are the hinges?  Buffalo Horn?  What about the keeper mechanism? Ivory? Very impressive shirasaya!  My hat is off to you for commissioning this work and sharing it here.

The hinge is made of water buffalo, in fact all parts which are black are made of it.

The white parts are made of legal preban elephant ivory.

Nice-looking shirasaya, Max, built with considerable care. I'll definitely consider John next time I need one made. Do you have more shots of the habaki?

Ken

I don't have any more pictures of the habaki right now. I asked John for some, and I will post them here as soon as I receive them.

The sword is now going directly from John to Bob Benson for Shiage polish.
