Entry-Level Tanto With Dragon Horimono And Bonji For Sale

Dear NMB Members:

Rather than holding onto this until the S.F. Token Kai in August, I am offering it with a few other items for sale now. I have what looks like a modern, or war era or Meiji era Tanto with dragon horimono and bonji for sale. I picked it up at a local gun show last year. I cannot really tell if this is hand forged, because the hada is so tight, so I am selling it as a non-hand-forged blade and at a non-hand forged price. It comes in a shirasaya with an integral wooden habaki built into the handle. The shirasaya is opening up along the seam. The nagasa is 8 inches (20.4 cm), and the width across the hamachi/mune measures 1 inch wide (2.4 cm). It's a good beginning, entry-level collector/project piece, or a dealer inventory merchandise piece, at a low price. I am asking $300, and the buyer pays the shipping and insurance costs. Payment by cashier's check or money order. If interested, or if you have any questions, feel free to email me at besheehan@aol.com.

Best regards,

Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)

Dear Greg:

Thanks for the response. I suspect that rice glue would do the trick, but someone would probably have to split the saya open and re-glue it. When I bought it, my thought was to eventually pick up a habaki and piece together a tanto koshirae for it from a sword show, but I never got around to it. I considered it a future project piece. I've decided to thin out a few pieces in my inventory now, rather than waiting for August in San Francisco at the Token Kai.

Best regards,

Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
