tsuba w/ kanji

Hi,

The kanji on the tsuba are “出硎閃々光芒如花 二腰両腕一割若瓜â€.

I found that they are identical with the Setsudan-mei (截断銘) on a katana of Suishinshi Masahide (水心子正秀).

See the item No. 28 in the following list on the NBTHK web site.

The latter part of the Setsudan-mei (cutting test record) says that it smoothly swept two waists and both hands like a fresh melon. Although I am unsure about the former part, that may be something like.......... After polish, it sparkles and the crepuscular rays look like a flower. :?:

Anyway, when the tsuba was made, the description of the Setsudan-mei had been known. But I do not know if there was a direct relationship between the sword and the tsuba.
