Shakudo Tsuba For Sale

Wakizashi size Shakudo Tsuba with Chrysanthemum Flower and Butterfly design in Gold – probably depicting summer..? Leaves (and buds) are done in Gold, Shakudo and Copper. The design looks to have been made using the Gold amalgam application method – i.e. an amalgam paste is applied to the design, and then heated. As the heat rises, the Mercury vaporises leaving the Gold fixed to the ground. I have no idea about school; however, I would estimate that it is mid to late Edo.

The mimi of this Tsuba is a kaku mimi, ko-niku (square rim, slightly rounded) and the Tsuba is flat (same thickness from seppa-dai to mimi).

It is an attractive Tsuba, with a nice design on both sides and minimal damage etc. The shakudo is darker in real life, because the photos were taken in fairly harsh sunlight to show the detail..

Size is 70mm x 61mm x 4mm. Weight is 110 grams (4 oz).

Price is $500 AUD (plus postage) and a donation to the NMB will be honoured if sold.

This Tsuba does not come with a box sorry.

Thank you.

Barrie.
