tokashikibob
In case there is any interest, a Great looking example of the WW2 outfitted Sword. A robust older blade, size and characteristics seem to place it in the Shinto era, but I'm a amateur so feel free to correct anything. Sword has orig. hard to find combat cover. Sword is very hefty and is signed. Leather cover has a few worn spots, Heel on scabbard stitching is loose. Leather over wooden scabbard. Wood Scabbard is the original Samurai scabbard and is black lacquer. Sword stays in scabbard via friction there is no button mechanism needed. Old flat iron samurai Sword Guard; handle, guard are tight to the sword. Sword has a few metal carbon spots but are not considered fatal flaws and a little shinae patch near the tsuba. Nice strong Hamon, blade needs to be polished, sports a more flatter grey metal appearance than wet shiny and looks to have been wet sanded. Worn by a company grade officer during WW2 hence the tassel. Picker stated family said sword was taken by a U.S. Soldier during the Saipan campaign during World War 2. -If interested PM me for more pics and details. -Donation to NMB upon sale - Price $1800 Best Regards, Bob

Jean
I'll say pitting. Hagire are generally hairline cracks, faintly visible.
