Stunning KOTO TANTO in equally stunning mounts

Hi Guys, maybe in the title I seem a little too excited but it is with reason, I really find this set something.

The blade remains ubu and the work is superior, The Mei reads Tsune (possibly Masatsune) first kanji was punched out by a newer Mekugi-ana. I made the biggest mistake of not sending this piece for hozon before exporting it out of Japan. I would highly suggest the new custodian to submit it for Hozon, or possibly bring it or have it sent to an upcoming show. I am certain the work is minimum Tokubetsu Hozon. The polish is in excellent condition and the Jigane looks great.

Wow..now that is a beauty. If I was in a buying position, this would be high on that list.

Those menuki would paper very well I suspect too. Just a beautiful package all round. Would love to know how this would paper.

First gen is Momoyama. A very nice and tempting Tanto, if I weren't saving for something else I would consider it.

 

The Mekugi-ana looks a bit small to cover the rest of the mei. There were a couple of smiths just called Tsune listed in Hawley's, could it be one of them?

First generation started working at the end of Koto but most sources consider him a Shinto smith, much like Horikawa Kunihiro, Myoju, Shodai Tadayoshi, etc...

First thanks to Brian, Matt, Henk-Jan, and James for the kind comments, glad that my pics come close to showcasing how nice the set is.

James you are correct the 政 would need to be small in order for it to have been there prior, I'll have to take a real close-up picture to see if there are any remnants of strokes. So Maybe just Tsune like James proposed, it is elongated which apparently is common in the first Gen, so Chris's assumption of Owari Masatsune would be accurate, thanks Chris for the input. So how about we say end koto - early Shinto.
