All,

I am considering making the move over to the new improved forum sofware I mentioned earlier. I have managed to impliment most of the changes I wanted to, and everything seems to be working well at the moment.

One downside is that I can't carry over members and posts that came since the conversion at the end of December, but those few members can just re-register, and the other posts will still be here for reference.

If we make the move, I will still leave this one up for the info, although new posts would be blocked. However most of the posts have been moved across.

The colours and look I would work on over time, as making some changes are in the cards, but not easy at all. I hope most of you have had a chance to play with it a bit. As mentioned earlier, it is at http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb
There will be some minor changes needed to old posts such as editing to convert html to bb code when you see it (some of your sigs might need changing) but those are not a problem. Your existing login and password are still valid, and I have now implimented a feature where all new registrations have to provide a real name and initial and this will show in your profile.

The more we delay the change, the more posts will get left behind.
So what say you all?

Brian

Anyone who is running Netscape or Firefox, can you go into your profile there, and let me know if the top tabs are being cut off so that you can't see their labels?
This has occured to myself and another user, and I am trying to solve it.
On mine, the restore down button (between _ and X at the top right of the screen) followed by maximise brought back the tabs. Also, choosing the "view page like Explorer" setting also worked. When I went back to Netscape 7.2, the issue also stopped. But I need to know who is having this issue, so that I can try and find a fix.

All,

it was me having the problem Brian just mentioned.
And it did not disappear with Brians workaround. My current version of Firefox is: 2.0.0.11 (updates automatically).
I do not have this issue with IExplorer but I usually donīt use this browser.

cheers,

Hi Martin,
It's not just you. It's also me as I am using also the Firefox as IE is a noooooooooooooooo way to use on a Macintosh Laughing

Maybe it's a bug of the CSS of PHPBB3? Can you use another template just for a trial?

Hi Brian. Go for it.

Just a thing :
don't you find the new background too bright ? I'm used to this relaxing
black/blue background (soooo Iaido-ish) that I find the new one
flashy.

Hi Brian,
I just registered myself on the PHPB3 support site where I have seen you posted the question already. It is not the same there! So I am sure that you modified the PHPBB3 template and did something wrong there. Just switch to one of the by default provided templates and give me a chance to try it. I already did a lot with css due to the situation that I already setted up several webpages by using php and joomla. I deleted the old phpbb2 version on one of my pages due to massive security problems. Hopefully there will be a bridge soon for joomla for phpbb3

The problem by the way, also exists at the login page! there the "tabs" are already only half of the size!

I am also experiencing the same issue of vertically shortened tabs, entry fields, etc.

And FWIW I really like the current dark color scheme, but I know it's a pain to make a new CSS-based theme to match on a new platform.

I agree to that It's a real pain in the A.....
When I setup a new page this is the most time consuming part.

Here is the last page I did from my other Hobby, RC Planes (only in german...)

Hi Brian,

Not trying to nit pick here, but I just noticed one thing...

when you click a link in the old forum it opens a new frame, which I find very useful.... especially for cross referencing etc.

on the new forum the linked page opens in place of the forum on the same frame....

will this be changed..??

Cheers... and yes... go for it.... BTW I am using Firefox and all looks OK.

John,
I'll address your links quessie first. This was done very deliberately by the phpBB team for various security reasons.
I'll probably mod it to open in a new window, but the first one I tried was flawed.
Of course you should be using one of the tabbed browsers by now, and using a wheel mouse that opens links in a new tab every time you click the wheel. I wouldn't be able to use the internet any other way Smile

Colors: - I'll be working on those as I said. Will take time, as one change affects 10 other things that need to be changed, and those affect 10 other things.....but I want it darker and more distinct.

Tabs: No fix for the cutoff tabs yet. Still working on it, and we won't move over until we solve the issue.
The phpBB webpage is the ones using a heavily modded template Andreas. And it is one they copyrighted and won't let anyone use. Mine is still pretty standard, and I am fairly certain it wasn't a .css edit, or I would have the problem on my Mozilla browser too.
I can install other templates, but then the whole look is going to be off, and I will need to redo the logos, index page, search positioning, header etc. Will look at that though.

Brian
